Ratnachira : Our Dedication to Literature
Ratnachira derives its name from a sacred river that has nurtured Odisha's cultural stalwarts along its banks. This river is associated with a glorious past, signifying Sri Ram's love for Sita. Legend has it that when Sita felt thirsty, Sri Ram cut the land with his bejewelled ring and a river was created—the Ratnachira. Ratnachira celebrates its great name by bringing remarkable innovations to Odisha's literature and publishing landscape.
Our Journey
The Ratnachira publishing house came into being on 6th March 2022, closely followed by the launch of a delectable monthly literary magazine, Ratnachira, two months later on 27th May 2022. What a stupendous journey of 3 years it has been since these humble beginnings! During this period, Ratnachira Publications has brought out more than 150 titles—mostly in Odia but also some English titles—straddling all genres and tastes. The production quality of our books and the sincerity of our marketing and publicity endear authors to return to Ratnachira for publishing their subsequent works.
Ratnachira Magazine
The Ratnachira magazine has carved out a niche for itself, endearing it to the vast Odia readership due to its sincerity—it is brought out on the first of every month without fail—quality of editing, and high production standards. It has never faltered on its objective of placing quality content, not just famous names, in its pages. The magazine has brought many talented new writers to the fore when the quality of their writing has been exemplary.
Ratnachira Annual Literary Festival
To engage readers and culture-loving Odias, Ratnachira magazine celebrates an annual literary festival during which it honours literature practitioners with great distinction. The magazine bestows the prestigious 'Saraswat Samman' and one 'Youth Literature Award' upon deserving writers. These awards are accompanied by cash prizes of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively.
Additionally, an award of Rs. 5,000 is presented to the best reader—a unique initiative in Odisha to encourage readership. Besides these, the magazine honours one writer each in the categories of Poetry, Short Story, Essay, Translation, and Literary Organizer.
